Updating Your Scanner

To update the firmware on your BLCKTEC device, please follow the steps below using the OBD Tool Updater app. Be sure to download and install the latest version of the OBD Tool Updater app before beginning.

Important

Be sure to download and install the latest version of the OBD Tool Updater app before beginning. Even if you have previously installed it, updates may have been made since your last download.

Step 1 - Connect to your PC

Connect your tool to your computer:

  • Locate the USB-C port on your tool. Refer to the image.
  • Use a USB-C cable that supports data transfer.
  • Plug the USB-C cable into the tool's USB-C port.
  • Connect the other end of the cable to a USB port on your computer.
  • Ensure all connections are secure.
  • Once connected, the screen will turn on and display the message: "Follow instructions on the PC."

Step 2 - Install and Launch the OBD Tool Updater App

Download the App:

Launch the OBD Tool Updater app:

  • For Windows, open the OBD Tool Updater app.
  • For Mac, right click and select "Open".
  • A pop-up window will appear showing that your Tool status is Connected.

  • For Windows, open the OBD Tool Updater app.
  • For Mac, right click and select "Open".
  • A pop-up window will appear showing that your Tool status is Connected.

Troubleshooting:

If your tool is connected but the app shows "Disconnected" status:

  • Ensure the USB connection between your computer and tool is secure.
  • Try another USB port on your computer.
  • Try another USB cable. Some cables only provide power and do not support data transfer.

Troubleshooting:

If you're on a Mac and an error message appears when opening the app:

  • Instead of double clicking the app, right click on it and select "Open".

Step 3 - Update the Tool

Check for Updates

  • If you do not see the "Update my tool now" button, then your tool is up to date. You may then exit the updater and safely disconnect your tool from the computer.
  • If updates are available for your device, an "Update my tool now" button will appear.
  • Click it to begin the update process.

This process may take some time. Thank you for your patience.

Step 4 - Finish

Update Completed

  • Once the update process is complete, the prompt will display a message saying "Update Complete".
  • You may then exit the updater and safely disconnect your tool from the computer.
  • When you reconnect your device to your vehicle, it should immediately display the updated firmware version.

Troubleshooting:

If the update freezes at 1% or 5%, with no progress:

  • Your updater may be out of date. Please install the latest updater for your tool.
  • Reinstall the app. When you see the option to "Modify, Replace, or Repair," choose Repair.
